Baby Sprinkle Recap

A dear friend of mine, Jessica, is expecting a sweet baby boy in May. Jess has a son Hunter who is 3 years old (A’s boyfriend) and Jess’s fiance Stephen also has a son and daughter. We are all very excited to welcome Baby Boy Alex and our friend Meghon and I decided to surprise Jess with a sprinkle to celebrate the impending arrival of this dear new addition.

We’ve been plotting this sprinkle since the holidays, with Stephen assisting us however he could. It was not easy keeping such a big surprise under wraps for several months, especially since Jess is a pretty smart person with an excellent knack for reading people. Somehow we managed to keep it a surprise and Jess was so honored and excited when she walked in (and gave the most epic WTF face ever!).

Meghon and I were in agreement from the beginning about keeping it a simple, intimate event with Jess’s very closest friends and family.  We decided to have it at my house with the sprinkle theme peppered throughout. We had so much fun putting everything together and making it as special as we could and I think we’d classify this as mission accomplished.

Excuse this horrible photo- the lighting at the party was rough to photograph in, in general. I could not get a good shot of my clouds so I had to wait until the evening and use my flash 🙁 #photoamateur

In keeping with the sprinkle theme, I made some simple dot garlands, a tissue pom pom “clouds” with rain drops “sprinkling” down from them, and jam jars containing sprinkles and tea lights in some and colorful daisies in others. It was all very simple and extra cute. We had some amazing luck with finding many decor items at The Christmas Tree Shop for excellent prices. Our best deal was mason jars with straws, which after being half off on clearance, came down to a whopping $.50 each! So we picked up enough of those for each guest to take one and added some chalk board labels so that people could write their names on them (this went with the jugs of lemonade and iced tea that also had chalk board labels, another Christmas Tree Store pick up, which I’ll definitely look forward to using for future events that I host). We also had a station where people could write messages on diapers so that Jess and Stephen could get a laugh when they’re doing the dreaded late night diaper changes.

We had a pretty tasty menu consisting of many appetizers and desserts. Jess didn’t realize this at the time, but she actually built the menu for the sprinkle the week before while we were texting about what she was craving. Some of the food we served included italian sausage and peppers (only the best), green bean salad, cheese and pepperoni, quinoa bites, breaded and baked zucchini with bloomin’ onion dip (stooooopppp!! So good!) and then cupcakes, brownies and chocolate dipped strawberries. For beverages we had iced tea, lemonade, water and coffee. Nice and simple but also delicious.

Like i said we kept it simple without any stupid games, and just enjoyed each others company. It was more about celebrating the addition of a very special little boy. Of course there was some gift opening and baby Alex is going to be very well dressed!

Overall it was a really special and great day. I know it meant the world to Jess, and I cannot believe we managed to keep it a surprise (she’s a smart cookie!).

We got Hunter some special Spiderman and Mickey Mouse Big Brother Gifts and he was super excited. He was actually showing us his Spiderman moves here.

I’m not really one for games. We actually had people create a fabric square to make a quilt out of…instead of games! 🙂
