Right now I’m on the hunt for fun items to fill the built-in shelves in our living room. I will also be changing the background color (TBD) because I absolutely cannot stand the horrible shade of blue that is currently in there.
One of the items that I came across on a rather successful trip to Marshalls was this decorative metal sphere. I liked it, but I was thinking that gold may match the overall feel that I’m going for in the room. Luckily, that’s nothing that a little spray paint won’t fix. And I just-so-happened to find the perfect shade of gold spray paint to give it a more vintage feel.
If you know me, you probably know that my spray painting experience is limited at best. Still, it can’t be that hard, right? My research indicated that several thin coats is the way to go. So I began.
Here’s how it looked after a single of coat:
Here’s how it looked after a few coats:
And of course the finished product in it’s new home (disregard the horrible blue background):
Ultimately it took a total of four coats because I had to turn it as well to accommodate the spherical shape, so it was really only two on each side. But at the end of the day, I’m quite happy with how it turned out.
Now what should I do about the of the shelves? Paint? Wallpaper?
