    Decorative metal sphere makeover

Feb 18, 2015 · Modified: Dec 14, 2017 by Jessy Freimann · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads ·

Right now I'm on the hunt for fun items to fill the built-in shelves in our living room. I will also be changing the background color (TBD) because I absolutely cannot stand the horrible shade of blue that is currently in there. The Life Jolie

One of the items that I came across on a rather successful trip to Marshalls was this decorative metal sphere. I liked it, but I was thinking that gold may match the overall feel that I'm going for in the room. Luckily, that's nothing that a little spray paint won't fix. And I just-so-happened to find the perfect shade of gold spray paint to give it a more vintage feel.

    The Life Jolie

If you know me, you probably know that my spray painting experience is limited at best. Still, it can't be that hard, right? My research indicated that several thin coats is the way to go.  So I began.

Here's how it looked after a single of coat:

    The Life Jolie

Here's how it looked after a few coats:

    The Life Jolie

And of course the finished product in it's new home (disregard the horrible blue background):

    The Life Jolie

Ultimately it took a total of four coats because I had to turn it as well to accommodate the spherical shape, so it was really only two on each side. But at the end of the day, I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

Now what should I do about the of the shelves? Paint? Wallpaper?

This looks really nice with the gold paint! :) I'm jealous of your built-ins...we don't have the space for them in our home currently. Yours look great! Please consider linking up your blog posts at the Home Matters Party this weekend - we'd love to have you! The door opens Fridays at 12 am. http://www.overdueorganizing.com/home-matters-linky-party-25 (LInk goes live at midnight)

Thank you- I used to be all silver, all the time but lately I've been getting into the gold. Our house is pretty small but we really needed more storage and the Billy Bookcases from Ikea were and almost perfect fit. I think my husband hated that project (hence why we never added the crown molding to them) but we're both really happy with how they turned out! Thank you for stopping by, I'll check out the link up!

That's awesome that you made one- I've had very bad luck with embroidery hoops; many, many botched projects! Thanks for stopping by!
