I hope everyone had an excellent holiday weekend (whether you celebrate the 4th or a few days before that, Canada Day). I know we had a great weekend! The forth of July is not only independence day, but also J’s and my anniversary. That’s right, we were those people who had our wedding on a National Holiday. Sorry not sorry. But seriously, it was an awesome day six years ago. And we had free fireworks (three different shows viewable from our reception site!) so there’s that. Seriously, though, J and I are not terribly romantic people. I mean we have our sweet moments and we both really try and do a lot of thoughtful things for each other. But we don’t go big celebrating anniversaries. We prefer to relax and spend time with our family.
This forth of July was no different. We went to the diner in the morning and enjoyed some breakfast and after A’s first nap, we headed over to my parents house to grill and enjoy each other’s company. It was a fun, low-key afternoon and we had an excellent meal of steaks, German potato salad (recipe coming soon!), corn on the cob, salad and fresh Italian bread. For dessert my mom surprised us with a cake from a local bakery called The Goodie Shoppe. They specialize in the most amazing ice cream cakes (with layers of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream as well as fresh pineapple and fresh strawberries). These are J’s favorites and I can now confidently say that A is also a fan.
The most exciting part of the day is that A decided to start standing on her own. While we were getting ready to go, I was watching A in her room while J was packing the car. She was sitting on the floor playing with a toy and looked right up at me and grinned. Immediately after she just stood right up. She didn’t pull herself up on anything or need assistance, she just stood up. It was awesome! And of course she spent the rest of the day standing. I think it helped that she had a room full of people that were there cheering her on.
We were originally planning on going to the fireworks (which are conveniently located very close to my parent’s house). Then we realized that they didn’t start until 9:45pm! For some reason we thought that they were earlier. Being that A has an 8pm bedtime, it was clear that fireworks would have to wait a year. It all worked out really well, because A’s Godmother, my cousin Andrea and her husband Nate stopped by after dessert. They aren’t local, so it was really nice to visit with them. A stayed up a bit later but she did pretty well and still slept very well when we got home.
So without further ado, here are some photos:
How was your holiday weekend?
