As you guys probably know by now, I contribute recipes over at Organized Home Organized School a couple times a month. If you haven’t yet been over there yet, I encourage you to go check it out because Jennifer has some fantastic posts on organizing, home making and home schooling! I am so excited because she has agreed to write a guest post over here today. Jennifer really knows her stuff and is such a sweet and gracious person, so to be able to get some of her great tips on quick, inexpensive linen closet organization is such a treat! Take it away, Jennifer:
Hello The Life Jolie readers! I am thrilled to be sharing with you all today. I’m so grateful that Jessy invited me into her space to share some of my organizing tips and I hope you are able to get some inspiration from my love of organizing!
Let’s dive right in!
I think for a lot of us, the linen closet is a place we often forget to purge and organize. I know for myself, it can be so easy to buy duplicates of items I already have in stock because I haven’t reached into the back of my closet to see what’s been pushed back there. That’s why I decided now would be a good time to go through my little cabinet and reorganize everything for a fresh look and so I would know exactly what I had on hand.
I didn’t have a huge budget for this project, so if you are looking to tackle your closet, know that it can be done for a few bucks!
I took a quick trip to Dollar Tree (one of my favorites places to shop when I’m on a budget), and picked up a few supplies:
- Pretty labels
- Dry erase markers
- Clear shoebox containers (already had on hand)
And that’s it! I spent $2 for the labels and markers. I already had the clear containers, but I bought them from the dollar store years ago, so they would only have been a couple more dollars.
This project was so easy.
The first thing you want to do is clear out your space and assess the area you have to work with. I was working with two shelves.
Give everything a quick wipe down and then start purging items. Go through each item you have, toss things that are expired, and put all like items together in a pile for easy grouping together in a container later.
One you know what items and groups you have, you can then see how many containers you’ll need and start to label them. This is the fun part! The dollar store has a huge variety of super cute and fun labels, so your closet can be not only organized, but pretty, too 🙂
Some of the label categories I used include dental, shaving, sewing, batteries, skin cream, etc. Choose whatever categories fit your needs.
Next, simply place the groups you created earlier into the labeled containers and place them back in the closet or cabinet.
Here’s how mine turned out:
I love it! I’m always so motivated to stay organized when everything looks pretty, and I hope you get the same motivation from your closet!
Thanks again, Jennifer- my linen closet is in definite need of some re-organizing, I cannot wait to do this!
