1 pound ground beef 90/10
1 teaspoon Kosher salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper,
½ teaspoon dried basil
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
3 cups marinara sauce
16 ounces frozen tortellini pasta
1 ½ cup shredded mozzarella

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Brown beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up as it cooks unto fully browned, about 5 minutes.
Stir in salt, pepper, basil, garlic powder and onion powder until beef is fully coated.
Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
Add tortellini and stir to combine. Pour into a a 9" x 9" baking dish. Cover in foil.
Bake covered for 30 minutes.
Remove the foil and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese. Bake uncovered for another 10 minutes to melt the cheese. Cool 5 minutes and serve.

Notes

Use frozen for the best texture. I tested this recipe with fresh and shelf stable and the texture just wasn't right.

Make it creamy. Stir in a spoonful of ricotta or a splash of heavy cream for a richer sauce.

Give it some spice by adding a pinch of red pepper flakes for heat.

Shred your own cheese. It melts so much better than the pre-shredded kind!

Ingredients to prep ahead- Make the sauce in advance and shred the cheese.

Leftovers and storage- Store leftovers in the fridge for 3 days. Reheat in the oven, covered with foil or in individual servings in the microwave.
