Why You'll Love Oven Fried Pickles:
I'm not sure when fried pickles became a thing, but can I just take a moment to say that I am totally on board with them?! I once had the most incredible fried pickle spears on a trip to Toronto, a few days before I found out I was pregnant with T (although I totally suspected it the entire trip!).
They were crispy, crunchy breaded goodness on the outside and the perfectly briny tang of a dill pickle on the inside. It's like someone leaped into the snacks of my dreams and made them a reality.
And if they're not fried, then they're automatically healthy. So you can eat as many as you want. That's obviously how it works. Figuring out how to make these actually ended up being a fun and slightly messy afternoon. Here are just a few more reasons to try them:
- Such a fun and unique appetizer option
- Less oil than deep frying
- Crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside
- Can be paired with your favorite sauces
- Super easy to make

Ingredient Information And Substitutions
- Dill Pickle Chips- You could certainly cut your own pickle chips out of full-sized dill pickles — but buying the pre-sliced chips is so much easier! Make sure you remove any broken pieces before you get started and drain well (expert tip: throw some thinly sliced carrots or onions into the pickle juice and thank me later!).
- Breading- Create your standard dredging stations to add the breading. Flour, eggs, panko breadcrumbs, seasoned salt, and dried dill are all needed.
- BBQ Sauce & Ranch- I love combining the two to create a fun and tasty BBQ ranch dipping sauce. You can use your preferred sauce if you'd like — I bet sriracha ranch would be amazing!
- Cooking Spray- To keep things from sticking.

How To Make Fried Pickles In The Oven
Step 1- Recipe prep.
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add a wire rack on top and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
Step 2- Make your dredging stations and bread the pickles.
Place the flour in the first bowl, beat the eggs in a second bowl, and combine the panko, seasoned salt, and dill in a third bowl.
Dip a pickle chip in the flour, then the eggs, then the breadcrumb mixture. Place on the wire rack and repeat with the rest of the pickle chips. Apply with cooking spray before transferring to the oven.

Step 4- Bake.
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. While they bake, mix your BBQ sauce and ranch dressing in a small bowl.
Let the baked pickle chips cool slightly before serving with the sauce and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions
To keep the breading from falling off your pickles, dry them thoroughly before you dredge them and don't skip the flour step — it helps the breading stick. You'll also want to avoid overcrowding the baking sheet so the hot air has room to circulate. Finally, let the baked pickles cool slightly before serving to give the breading a chance to set.
Absolutely — that's what this baked pickle chips recipe is all about! I don't know if I would bake them without adding the breading, as I'm certain the hot heat would dry them out. Bread the pickle chips first and you should be fine.
Make sure you're using panko bread crumbs and not regular — they add a ton of crunch. Also, the baking rack helps them be crispier since it allows the air to circulate all around each pickle without creating a soggy part from some of it touching the pan.

Tips For Making Oven Fried Dill Pickle Recipe
- I line my pan with a wire cooling rack to help with the crispiness. I also add a layer of foil under the rack for easier cleanup.
- Because I wanted them to be super crispy, I opted to use a combination of panko breadcrumbs, cooking spray, and high heat to get the perfect golden brown crust we all know and love.
- Speaking of cooking spray, make sure to spray your wire rack as well as the tops of the pickles right before you put them into the oven for optimal browning.
- I love a good dipping sauce and the perfect option was the BBQ ranch dip that I use as dressing on my copycat Panera Bread BBQ chicken salad (which, by the way, is my most popular salad recipe).
- Ingredients to prep ahead- Remove any broken pickle chips from the jar. Drain well and dry all of the remaining chips with paper towels.
- Leftovers and storage- Fried baked pickles are definitely best served right away. The leftovers aren't bad, but refrigerating never really does good things to crispy food. If you do have some left over, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. You can bring them back to life in the oven — or an air fryer would work fabulously.

What To Serve With Fried Baked Pickles
Don't forget to make my quick BBQ ranch dipping sauce for these! You also serve them with whatever sauce strikes your fancy. Regular ranch dressing would be great. Or a dill veggie dip.
Oven fried pickles would make for the perfect addition to a larger appetizer spread, especially around the holidays or football Sunday! I would serve them alongside my baked lasagna dip, BBQ little smokies, sweet and spicy baked chicken wings, a classic 7 layer dip, and plenty of chips!

Oven Fried Pickles Recipe
Ingredients
- Cooking spray
- 16 ounces dill pickle chips, drained well with broken pieces removed
- ½ cup flour
- 3 large eggs (start with two and add a third if needed)
- 1 ½ cups panko bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- 3 Tablespoons BBQ sauce
- 3 Tablespoons Ranch dressing
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F and line a sheet pan with parchment or a silicone liner and a metal wire cooling rack. Spray with cooking spray and set aside.
- Pull out 3 shallow bowls. Place the flour in the first bowl. Beat the eggs in the second bowl. Mix the Panko, seasoned salt and dill until well combined.
- Dredge each pickle slice in the flour and tap off the excess.
- Using that same hand, submerge each pickle slice in the egg to fully cover and tap off the excess.
- Using the other hand, cover the egg-soaked pickle slice in bread crumbs and gently tap off the excess. Place the pickle slices on the rack. They can be pretty close, just not touching.
- Spray the tops with cooking spray and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the pickles bake, combine equal parts BBQ sauce and ranch dressing. Refrigerate until you're ready to serve.
- Once they're done baking, remove the pickles from the oven and let them cool for a couple minutes before serving.
