This pita chips recipe is one of the easiest snacks you can make at home. They’re crispy, full of flavor, and ready in about 20 minutes, making them perfect for last-minute guests or quick appetizers.

Why You’ll Love These Homemade Pita Chips

Sometimes the best snacks are the simplest ones. These pita chips come together in just a few minutes with pita bread, a little oil, and Everything But The Bagel seasoning. They bake up perfectly crisp in the oven and are ideal for dipping into hummus, guacamole, or any of your favorite spreads.

They’re also a great throw-together snack for last-minute guests and, honestly, couldn’t be easier to make. I like baking them until they’re nice and crispy, but you can also leave a little chew in the middle if that’s more your thing. And if you’re not in the mood to turn on the oven, you can easily make pita chips in air fryer too. Here’s why this recipe works so well:

    • Ready in about 20 minutes
    • Made with a few ingredients
    • Perfect for dips and spreads
    • Easy to customize

    Ingredient Information And Substitutions

    • Pita bread- The base of the recipe. Whole wheat, multigrain, or white pita all work well. Thicker pita breads create sturdier chips, but I like the kind that are meant to be pita pockets so I can have thinner chips.
    • Olive oil cooking spray- Helps the chips crisp up and gives the seasoning something to stick to- I also use avocado oil cooking spray. Regular olive oil brushed lightly on top works too.
    • Everything Bagel Seasoning- Adds tons of flavor with garlic, sesame, onion, and salt. You can also use garlic powder, za’atar, or simple sea salt if preferred.

    How To Make Pita Chips

Step 1- Cut the pita bread.

Set your oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Slice each pita in half, then cut each half into three wedge-shaped pieces. If using pitas that are pockets, slice on the fold to make each each wedge into two thin wedges.

Pita cut into 6 wedges and then a knife cutting each wedge in half.

Step 3- Arrange on the pan and add oil and seasoning.

Place the wedges in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray the tops of the pita wedges with olive oil cooking spray. Then, sprinkle everything bagel seasoning evenly over the pita pieces and gently press it in with your hands. Then turn them over and repeat the process on the other side.

Pita wedges spread in a single layer on a pan and then with oil and seasoning on them.

    Step 4- Bake, then enjoy.

Bake for 7 minutes, flip each chip and bake an additional 3-5 minutes until the chips are crisp and lightly golden. Enjoy warm or let them cool slightly before serving.

Step 4A- Instructions for pita chips in air fryer

After oiling and seasoning both sides of the chips, Place in a single layer in the air fryer that's been preheated to 375 degrees F. Cook 3 minutes, shake and cook another 3-4 minutes until golden.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to separate the pita layers?

You don’t have to, but you can if you want thinner chips. Keeping the layers together makes the chips a little sturdier. I prefer them thinner.

    Are pita chips healthy?

They can be a lighter snack than many fried chips, especially when baked at home. Since you control the oil and seasoning, they’re often a simple option to enjoy with dips like hummus or yogurt-based spreads.

Why are some chips browning faster than others?

Some wedges may be slightly thinner than others. If needed, you can remove the crisp ones early and let the rest finish baking.

Tips For Making Baked Pita Chips

    • Cut the pita evenly. Keeping the wedges about the same size helps them bake at the same rate, preventing some pieces from burning while others stay soft.
    • Bake in a single layer. Spread the wedges out in the pan, so the heat circulates and crisps them properly.
    • This recipe also works well for air fryer pita chips. Prepare the wedges the same way, spray lightly with oil, add seasoning, and cook at about 375 degrees F for 5-7 minutes, shaking halfway through so they crisp without over-browning.
    • Adjust the baking time to your preference. Bake a little shorter for chips that are crisp on the edges with a bit of chew in the middle, or a few minutes longer for fully crunchy chips.
    • Ingredients to prep ahead- You can cut the pita wedges earlier in the day and keep them covered until you’re ready to bake.
    • Leftovers and storage- Store cooled chips in an airtight container on the counter for a few days. They’re best fresh, but you can crisp them back up with a quick minute in the oven if needed.

Wanted a warm snack, and I'm glad I found your recipe! I didn't have spray olive oil so I lightly brushed it on before sprinkling my seasoning. Cut my pita into eight pieces instead of six, but otherwise followed the instructions! 10 minutes in my toaster oven and they were ready to dip (with garlic hummus, my perennial favourite). Thank you!
