Why You'll Love Hawaiian Bread Ham Sliders
Mmmmmmmm, sliders! A good slider recipe is never a bad thing to have up your sleeve. They're quick, easy, and always a hit at any gathering. So naturally, I'm all over these kind of recipes!
I currently have one other slider recipe on this site — my Baked Buffalo Chicken Sliders — and it's one of my most popular recipes (and with good reason — yum!). This baked ham and cheese sliders recipe is along those same lines.
You can use ham and Swiss from your local deli, plus your choice of rolls. I went with Hawaiian rolls because the only thing better than regular sliders is Hawaiian roll sliders. Learn how to slice the whole slab of rolls in half to assemble the sandwiches, plus how long to bake ham and cheese sliders so they're gooey in the center and perfectly toasted on the outside.
These Kings Hawaiian ham and cheese sliders are so easy to make that you're sure to have them in regular rotation. Here are a few more reasons to love this recipe:
- Ready in 30 minutes
- Feeds a crowd
- Simple, delicious ingredients
- Easy to double if needed
- Customize with what you have

Ingredient Information And Substitutions
- Hawaiian Rolls- These are a little bit sweeter than regular dinner rolls or slider buns. And since they come connected to each other, it makes it even easier to assemble these poppy seed ham and cheese sliders.
- Deli Ham- All this means is thinly sliced ham. Grab a package from the refrigerated case or get it freshly cut from the deli counter. You can totally use leftover holiday ham, just make sure you cut them really well for serving.
- Swiss Cheese- My favorite pairing with ham for sure, and it melts down super easily. Provolone is the next best thing for flavor and consistency, but white cheddar would be yummy too.
- Yellow Mustard- Half of our honey mustard sauce! You can leave it off, but you might want to substitute another favorite because they're a little dry without any sauce (I tested these without sauce too because my husband hates mustard!). Dijon would be good too if you want a little kick.
- Honey- The other half of our sauce. Adds just enough sweetness to balance all the flavors.
- Butter Sauce- Super simple to make, but honestly, it's what makes these the best ham and cheese sliders out there. The melted butter helps the rolls brown and crisp, and the poppy seeds and onion powder add a savory crunch.

How To Make Ham And Hawaiian Roll Sliders
Step 1- Slice and toast rolls.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray a 9" x 13" pan with cooking spray.
Cut the Hawaiian rolls horizontally through the center to make a top piece and a bottom piece. Set the tops aside, then place the bottoms in the baking pan and bake uncovered for 5 minutes.

Step 2- Make the honey mustard sauce.
Whisk together the mustard and honey in a small bowl. Spread it in an even layer on the toasted bottom buns.

Step 3- Assemble the sliders.
Now top the bottom buns with ham and cheese.

Step 4- Top the sliders
Whisk together melted butter, onion powder and poppy seeds. Place the top buns on the sliders. Brush the butter mixture onto the tops of all the slider buns.

Step 5- Bake and serve.
Return the pan to the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the tops are golden and the cheese is melted. Serve immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can assemble these in advance and bake them just before serving. You can also make the honey mustard sauce up to a week ahead.
I bake mine at 350 degrees F for 10-15 minutes, plus 5 minutes beforehand to toast the buns.
It's totally a matter of opinion, but I think Swiss goes best. If you prefer a different type of cheese, feel free to use that instead!
These are definitely best served right away or reheated as leftovers.

Tips For Making Baked Ham And Cheese Sliders
- Try to keep the Hawaiian roll tops and bottoms in one piece when you cut them in half. I use a really sharp serrated knife (a bread knife works too) and slowly cut through the middle, making sure to keep an eye on both sides so as not to thin out the tops or bottoms too much.
- Bake the bottom buns for a few minutes so the honey mustard sauce doesn't make the bottom buns soggy.
- I gave a range of amounts for the ham and cheese slices because each brand is a little different in terms of size. Definitely add more or less based on your preference.
- Don't skip the butter step for the top buns, trust me!
- If you want extra honey mustard sauce for dipping, double the ingredients.
- Ingredients to prep ahead- you can slice the buns in half and whisk together the honey mustard sauce ahead of time.
- Leftovers and storage- These will last for 2-3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for best results.
