Why You’ll Love This Easy Chip Dip

What makes this pepperoni dip so special is that it’s delicious and super easy to make! I actually tried this dip a number of years ago at an old job. It was basically a humdrum telemarketing job, so to try to make things more fun, they would frequently do things in the office like food days, where everyone would bring in a dish to pass.

A coworker brought this creamy, savory potato chip dip, and I was curious about it. And then I tried it and couldn't stop eating it, so I begged my coworker for the recipe.

Since then, it’s become my go-to easy chip dip for parties, and I love that it only takes 5 minutes to prep. Best of all, it’s even better when made ahead, making it the perfect choice for game days or any casual get-together. Here’s why this recipe is worth trying:

    • Even better when made ahead!
    • Quick and easy — ready in 5 minutes
    • Creamy, savory, and so satisfying
    • Perfect for game days or parties
    • The ultimate dip for tortilla chips, bread, or veggies

    Ingredient Information And Substitutions

    • Sour Cream- Use regular, light, or fat-free sour cream. Greek yogurt works too if you want a lighter alternative, but the flavor will be slightly different.
    • Pepperoni- For the best texture, mince the pepperoni into small "crumbs." A food processor makes this easy and is preferable, but you can use a knife too.

How To Make Sour Cream Chip Dip

    Step 1- Chop the pepperoni.

Start by chopping your pepperoni into teeny-tiny pieces. The easiest way to do this is by using a food processor or mini prep processor. If using a knife, chop as finely as possible.

Place the pepperoni crumbs into a bowl with the sour cream.

Crumb-size chopped pepperoni in a food processor and the pepperoni crumbs added to a bowl with sour cream.

Step 2- Mix it up and chill.

Stir until the ingredients are evenly combined.

Cover the bowl and pop it in the fridge. It’s best when made ahead, so let it sit overnight if possible. This helps all the flavors to meld together, making the pepperoni dip even tastier.

The pepperoni crumbs and sourcream mixed together in the glass bowl and then the bowl chilling in the fridge.

    Step 3- Stir and serve.

When you’re ready to serve, give it a quick stir to make sure everything is mixed well. Spread onto your favorite chips, crackers or bread.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I customize this dip with other ingredients?

Absolutely! A pinch of garlic powder, smoked paprika, sun-dried tomatoes, chopped green onions, shredded cheese, or liquid smoke can take this dip to the next level. Feel free to experiment and make it your own!

Can I make it the day of?

You can make it on the same day, but it gets much more flavorful if it has some time to sit in the fridge, ideally overnight. I wouldn't serve it right after making it.

Can I double the recipe for a party?

This is a great recipe for scaling up. Double or triple the ingredients, and you’ll be set to feed a crowd.

What are some creative serving ideas?

You can use this dip as a spread on sandwiches, a topping for baked potatoes, or even stir it into pasta for a creamy sauce.

Tips For Making Dip For Tortilla Chips

    • Chill, chill, chill! The dip needs to sit in the fridge for at least a few hours before serving, but overnight is much better. This allows the sour cream and pepperoni flavors to really meld together, creating that creamy, savory goodness. Trust me, it’s worth the wait!
    • The best chips for dip are the ones that won’t crumble. I highly recommend sturdy tortilla chips or ruffled or kettle cooked potato chips. They’re perfect for scooping and won’t break apart easily.
    • If you want to amp up the flavor, try a sour cream base with added chives, onion, or jalapeño for extra zest.
    • Make it spicy. Add a few dashes of hot sauce, red pepper flakes, or finely diced jalapeños for a fiery kick.
    • Mix in shredded cheddar, mozzarella, or parmesan for added richness. You can also sprinkle some cheese on top as a garnish.
    • Ingredients to prep ahead- Chop the pepperoni ahead of time and store it in the fridge so you can quickly assemble the dip later.
    • Leftovers and storage- Store any leftover dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

What To Serve With Pepperoni Chips Dip

This creamy, savory sour cream chip dip stands strong on its own, but when paired with a few other easy dishes, it transforms into the perfect appetizer spread or light meal.

Whether you're prepping for a party or need a simple yet satisfying game-day snack, this dip will quickly become a fan favorite. Serve it alongside these tasty dishes to round out your meal:

    • BBQ Crock Pot Meatballs
